WonderWorks

Welcome to WonderWorks! The Smokies only upside down attraction. An amusement park for the mind, featuring over 100 interactive exhibits for the entire family to experience.

In the late 1950s, the classic TV show “The Twilight Zone” kicked off each episode with a spellbinding introduction: “You’re traveling through another dimension-a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.” Some 50 years later, it turns out that host Rod Serling could just as easily have been describing a day at WonderWorks, Pigeon Forge’s newest and most anticipated attraction.
Part interactive science museum, part entertainment venue and 100 percent family fun, WonderWorks is located on the Parkway, in the former Music Mansion Theater. But what visitors discover when they pull into the parking lot bears little resemblance to the attractions that Pigeon Forge guests are accustomed to seeing. The building’s 82-foot-tall facade makes it appear as if an entirely different building has crash-landed upside down on top of the one-time theater. Hissing steam emanating from a crack at the museum’s entrance only, enhances the illusion that a disaster of staggering proportions has just taken place.

“Understanding the folklore behind the apparent catastrophe is all part of the fun,” says Sande Weiss, WonderWorks’ vice president of operations. “WonderWorks began on a remote, uncharted island off the Atlantic coast, in the middle of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle,” she says. “As the story goes, governments from around the globe collaborated to create the world’s most technically advanced research facility for scientists to study unexplained, unpredictable and uncontrollable phenomena.”

Legend has it that one experiment went awry, and in an attempt to harness the power of a man-made tornado, a giant swirling vortex formed, spun out of control and took on a life of its own, unleashing its power throughout the laboratories. The energy vortex was so powerful that it sent the entire structure of the laboratory skyward, hundreds of miles away, where it landed upside down in the heart of Pigeon Forge’s Music Row.

As you step inside the 45,000-square-foot WonderWorks, however, legend blends seamlessly into reality as you take in the lobby, where the topsy-turvy interior of a stately scientific institute looms overhead, fresh from its sky-high plummet.

“When you enter the building, everything will be upside down, so in order to participate in the fun, you must be inverted,” explains Weiss. Guests pass through an inversion tunnel, which uses special lighting effects to create the sensation of being flipped upside down. Once you’ve passed through the tunnel, you’re greeted with proof positive that you’ve gone end up; as you gaze through the windows looking out on to the parkway, you’ll see that everything outside-cars, pedestrians and all-now appear upside down.

And that’s just the beginning. Once you’re properly aligned for your adventure, more than 100 interactive, hands-on exhibits await your exploration as you move from room to room, each of which is based on a different theme.

WonderWorks2

In the Disaster Zone, for example, simulators help you experience a 5.3-magnitude earthquake, or you can go head to head with hurricane-force winds. In the Space Zone, you can try your hand at landing a space shuttle orbiter, and in the Lights and Sound room, you can be amazed by a variety of nifty optical effects or do some fancy legwork as you play a giant keyboard with your feet.

According to Weiss, the Control Center houses one of the most amazing exhibits inside WonderWorks. “You get to design your own roller coaster and then get inside a simulator that takes you on a ride, based on what you just created,” she says. “It’s so realistic. The vehicle is controlled by a mechanical arm that makes it feel just like you’re riding a roller coaster.”

Other areas of WonderWorks include, a small theater venue that shows a video about the wonders of the world and the Illusion Gallery, where nothing is really what it appears to be. On the upper level of the attraction, guests will find a laser tag area and a large video arcade.

Dixie Stampede

The Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge is an entertaining extravaganza that combines music, fast paced rodeo-style entertainment and a delicious dinner. Bluegrass musicians begin the festivities by entertaining the gathering crowd in a non-alcoholic popcorn-serving saloon. Next the audience moves into a 35,000 square foot arena equipped with dining tables where they will be served a full four-course meal while watching the extravagant rodeo-style stage show.

The Dixie Stampede serves up plenty of family fun during the meal by featuring thirty-two champion horses and their riders, plus a cast of other performers. Dinner guests will see trick riding, roman riding, jumping, a liberty act, chuck wagon maneuvers, buckboard racing and pig and ostrich races involving individuals from the audience. Interspersed with the horsemanship are games, songs, and sidesplitting comedy.

The Smoky Mountain crowd plays a game at the Dixie Stampede. One of them is a special race among small children chosen from the audience. The crowd roars with laughter as they watch the little tikes chase a flock of chickens across the arena. Medals are awarded to the small proud winners whose chickens crossed the finish line first. Identical medals are awarded the other participants with the counsel that everyone is a winner at the Dixie Stampede. Another favorite is a game that involves a few members of the audience who think they are to barrel race champion horses but instead must settle to race stick horses.

Dixie

The bulk of the Dixie Stampede games actually involve the entire audience. The audience is divided into two teams representing the Yankees and Confederates of the Civil War. The object of the game is to decide once and for all whether the north or south is best—all in good fun of course! Each game is played with a Smoky Mountain flair and is mixed together with plenty of glitzy Dolly-like showmanship. The finale is a grand number intended to make each person proud to be an American.

The Dixie Stampede has a set menu, but a delicious one. The meal is worthy of the grand show it accompanies and the Smoky Mountain culture it reflects. The Dixie Stampede’s meal consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, a hickory smoked pork chop, creamy vegetable soup, a homemade biscuit, hot-buttered corn on the cob, herb-basted potato, a flaky apple pie and an assortment of beverages. All food at the Dixie Stampede is considered finger food and so a lack of silverware is part of the Smoky Mountain fun.

Parrot Mountain and Gardens

Once you visit this MUST SEE new attraction, don’t be surprised if as soon as you arrive home, you find yourself online, looking up the subject RAINFORESTS, seeing what you may do to preserve them! You may even imagine yourself ACTUALLY IN a rainforest, enjoying exhibit after exhibit of the beautiful parrots and their individual sounds, surrounded by beautiful flowers, gardens, and a picturesque waterfall!

See God’s beautiful creations at different stages of development, all the way from a somewhat clumsy, unattractive, newly-hatched baby, to an adult so colorful, you’ll think it is a ‘stuffed colorful bird’ until it moves or squawks!

Parrot Mountain Gardens Parrots

The highlight of your entire vacation may happen when you and or your children walk into the large Lory aviary, and have a bunch of beautiful young birds vie for your nectar, eating right out of your hand, after which you will undoubtedly hear the kids ask “can we PLEASE take one home with us!!!” The managers, Zach, Isabel & Fletcher (& Jacob!), are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about all areas concerning the birds, and is able to answer whatever questions arise that their very knowledgeable and friendly staff may not be able to answer. PARROT MOUNTAIN is rated a ‘MUST SEE’ attraction by DiscoverTheSmokies.com!

Every day, thousands of acres of tropical rainforest are cleared and burned, thus destroying birds, plants and habitat, causing them to become endangered or possibly extinct.
Parrot Mountain and Gardens is dedicated to helping preserve these species of beautiful birds through propagation, to prevent their becoming extinct like the Passenger Pigeon and Carolina Parakeet, once native to the USA. Come See & Hear Beautiful Tropical Birds from Different parts of the World!!!!

You may think there’s no way to see the rainforest in the heart of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, but Parrot Mountain & Gardens is doing its part to bring a little piece of the rainforest to the USA! Parrot Mountain and Garden is dedicated to preserving and protecting the avian species of the rainforest in the hopes of preventing the extinctions of different species. At Parrot Mountain & Gardens, you’ll stroll along pathways through lush gardens. Elvis Museum & Gift Shop

Mike L. Moon, Georgia entrepreneur and once owner of the Stamps Quartet, began collecting Elvis memorabilia in 1971. He accompanied J.D. Sumner, bass singer and leader of the Stamps Quartet, to a party Elvis hosted following a Las Vegas performance. When Mr. Moon was introduced to Elvis that evening, he complimented Elvis on the black leather belt he was wearing. Elvis, in turn, took the belt from his waist and handed it to Mr. Moon. This generous act made a lasting impression, and Mr. Moon became an avid follower and fan, collecting authentic Elvis memorabilia as opportunities arose.
Upon Elvis’ death in 1977, J.D. Sumner encouraged Mr. Moon to open the first Elvis Presley Museum beyond the gates of Graceland. Other members of Elvis’ entourage made items available to Mr. Moon, including Charlie Hodge, Ed Enoch, Buck Buckles, Billy Smith, Marty Lacker and Sonny West.

The original museum, right here in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee , opened in 1979. Mr. Moon devoted much of the next two decades expanding his collection to its prestigious title of “World’s Largest Private Collection of Elvis Memorabilia”.

Mr. Moon’s collection now belongs to his daughter, Lynn Moon McAllister, her husband, Donald, and their children, Sunni and Skyler. The Moon Family is proud to make this priceless collection available to you…the loyal and devoted fans who Elvis lived to sing for.

Sevierville, TN—With the beautiful Smoky Mountains, Little Pigeon River and clear mountain streams, it’s no wonder early pioneers decided to settle in Sevierville back in 1795. Sevierville is a community with a proud heritage and history, and now they’re proud to be home to America’s most popular outdoor store – Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.

The 130,000 square foot outdoor super store features two levels and is part local history museum, part art gallery, part education, conservation and entertainment center, and part retail store. It is located just off Interstates 40 and U.S. Highway 66 at the N.W. edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. Massive log and rock work frame the Grand Entrance where inside, log and chink, and barnwood walls and vaulted post and beam construction ceiling make up the front lobby. A fire crackles in the nearby stone and stucco fireplace authenticating the lodge-like feel.rustic furniture, various wildlife displays, local artifacts, and old photos.

Scene at Bass Pro

As you move on, you are greeted by giant, exquisitely crafted outdoor themed chandeliers, made by Bass Pro Shops own artisans hanging throughout the store.

Dinosaur fossils and wildlife tracks are imprinted in the concrete floor. One of the store’s focal points is a 30′ Smoky Mountain rock bluff that showcases a dramatic 15′ waterfall flowing into the 18,000 gallon aquarium stocked with over 200 fish native to the area. The water continues to flow as it drops over a pedestrian bridge that spans a 7,000 gallon trout stream where brook, brown, and rainbow trout may be seen idling in the water.

Stuffed Bear

Tribute is paid to the many diverse aspects that comprise the Great Smoky Mountain region, such as the Appalachian Trail, in the murals painted throughout the new Bass Pro Shops Sevierville store by Laughingwell Studio artist Linda Spencer. Indeed, the whole store is a tribute to the area and its people and, like other Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stores, takes on the flavor and atmosphere of the region in which it is located. Using area artifacts, antiques and memorabilia, the store becomes a living museum of the hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor legacies of Tennessee.
